7,92 kurz battlepack--Packhulsen

2nd amend law

Hi all,

Did the Wehrmacht use the standard 300 round Patronen battlepack for the MP44 7,92 kurz rounds? What wooden cases would the battlepacks be stored in the Patronenkasten 900? Patronenkasten 88? or the B Luftdichter Patronenkasten?

Thanks George.

I have checked the book by Dr. Dieter Kapell: Sturmgewehrpatrone 7,92x33 and there is no picture of how the small boxes were arranged. It depends also on the contents of the small boxes: 14, 15 or 20.
Patronenkasten 900, Patronenkasten 88 and B Luftdichter Patronenkasten were used, but Patronenkasten 900 wasn't common.

I have seen a picture of a label for 420 rounds of 7,92 kurz ammo on a Tragschaufe packhulsen. That would equate to 15 rounds per box and 28 boxes (schachtel) or 14 rounds in 30 boxes or 20 rounds per box for 21 boxes. A standard sleeve contained 300 rounds in 20 boxes of 15 rounds of 7,92 x 57 stacked 4 h x 5 L therefor 30 and 28 boxes 21 boxes can all be stacked 3x10 (30) 2x14or 4x7(28) 3x7 (21). This is why I asked if there were different packhulsen for the kurz rounds?

No, the battlepacks were the same. They were not designed for kurz but were designed for the normal 7,9 x 57 cartridge. The contents depended on the type of the small boxes, how cleverly it was packed and perhaps also on if stripper clips were used.
In Eastern Germany (DDR) they didn't use battlepacks. The small boxes were laid directly down in Patronenkasten 88.

7,92x33 Packhülsen

They used the standard battle pack. With 400, 420, 440, 450 or 480 rounds. See more
here: http://claus.espeholt.dk/8mmkurz.htm

I never saw a battelpack with 480 rounds. Also on the espeholt side is no 480 battelpack.

But there was a battelpack with 500 rounds 7,92x33 kurz.oxo used normal 8x57 boxes and filled them with 5 stripper clips with 5 rounds total 25rounds x 20boxes = 500.wooden crate 5x500 02500 and Patronenkasten 900 with 3x500 =1500

7.92x33 kurz battlepack-Packhülsen

7 original and two reproduction mags in the photo.

RA.BERG - that is great info about the OXO boxes, never seen or encountered Kurz in regular 8x57mm cartons, great info. totally news to me. Have a lot of OXO headstamps in the collection.

Also aux used in 1944 from lot 75 until 79 normal 8x57 boxes. But they filled them with only 20 rounds(4x5 rounds.)
The Packhülse contains 400 and the wooden crate only 2000.
