1879 Amberg M71

Warrior1354

ax - hole
Bought this rifle back in the winter finally got some pictures taken on it. All matching besides one of the barrel bands which is marked 71730 but the rifles serial number is 71732! Could be a factory mistake. Also got a really nice Amberg S71 blade too go with it as well. These are not easy blades too locate either plus it being made the same maker as my rifle is even better. And you know what its hard too believe how long these bayonets were for this rifles, also mounts on this M71 rifle really nice. Personally I think this rifle goes well my Gew98 collection.

Thats a great looking rifle. Congratulations!

Is your rifle marked to the 17. Bavarian infantry regiment? The unit markings are hard to read.

With kind regards

Vincent

Yes it is. There is another m71 rifle made in 1879 that's posted in the Imperial picture section. I believe it's really close to my serial number and it's in the same regiment.

Found it the serial number for that rifle is 71926 my rifles serial number is 71732. Both were assigned to the same regiment.

Yes it is.

Thank you for your answer. The 17th bavarian infantry regiment is very interesting.
It was formed only one year before your rifle was produced, in 1878. Even more interesting to me is the fact that the bavarian army took the 6th, 8th and 10th Jäger-Bataillon and merged them together to create this new 17th infantry regiment. Those elite Jägers units became a regular infantry regiment. I wonder how they felt about this...

With kind regards

Vincent

very nice...got a hole in my collection for one of those ..your bayonet is exceptionally nice. Its had to take good pics of the complete rifle as they are so long!

I know was hard too get the camera too focus right! Have too say I was lucky on that bayonet was called out of the blue about it from a collector asking if I might be interested. I'll be honest I hardy see any of those S71 blades even for sale.
