German WW1 helmet opinion

Have a opportunity to buy this helmet just wanted to hear some thoughts on it. The liner is worn but I'm still learning about these. I was told the liner was original though.

Any thoughts on this helmet guys? He did offer me a nice 1918 made helmet tonight as well. Have too wait on photos of that one though.

split pin heads look a little large to me ?? It might just be the photos but , ww1 pin heads are much smaller than ww2. I find this odd if this is the case cause the rest of the helmet looks fine. Paint, liner, chin strap ect.

This would be a mod17 with steel band and leather pads still using the Picklehaub chinstrap. The M18 is much harder to find and are more sought after.

Hopefully he sends me pictures of those two tonight he actually has two of them for sale. I didn't know those were a more desirable helmet. Just looking for a nice one for my imperial collection too be honest.

Looks good to me too I have had a few with that type liner as stated m17 metal band m16 has leather liner band one thing about ww1 coal buckets the back liner pin is thicker than the front ones on all I've had or see the front lugs tell the size looks 64 or so in your picture I think you have a good one these are going up got a 66 size shell last year with original paint, liner band and rivets for one hundred timothy

Now thats a deal! Anything you get a nice German helmet for $100 is a deal congrats on your purchase. And thank you for the info.

Here's some pictures of the 1918 dated helmet. From the description I got the liner is in better condition, the chin strap is actually a gas mask strap that was repurposed for use of a chin strap, and it has a soldier's name written on the inside.

not a fan of this one. Shell looks lacquered or shellaced and it doesn't look old. Liner pads are pad IMHO. chin strap im sure isn't an original modification. Sorry.

M16 looks okay but front liner rivet color seems to differ (need more/better photos). Keep in mind that fake and well aged M16 liners are common now. Need more/better photos.

The M18 liner looks bad to me, YMMV.

This one is much better. I would prefer to see better photos of the chinstrap. There is usually a hallmark on the chafe flap for lack of a better term.
Should be 18 dated. There are some good copies of these floating around.
