835 refers to the silver content, 83.5% silver and likely the rest copper. Not quite sterling.

My suggestion in to post on GermanDaggers.Com or Werhmacht Awards Forum. The moderators (Gaspare & Byzanti) on GDC and they are also post on WAF are extremely knowledgeable on private purchase rings.
