1893 Chilean

I just picked this one up locally. Looks to be all matching. I believe this is one of the rifles originally intended for the Boers but was resold to Chile. Not sure if the Sling is original. Has Cartouches on underside of stock that I believe are DWM Inspector Marks. No Chilean Cartouches. Bolt is bent and crest is slightly different than my 1895 Chilean Long Rifle.

I still need a 1895 Chilean Short and Carbine and 1912 Chilean Long and Short. If anyone has one they want to sell that is all matching please PM me. I have a matching 1935 Carbine.

Very nice find!

Can you post pictures of the stock markings you mentioned?

I have basically the same rifle, but OVS marked, not nearly as nice, it is a bolt m/m that I believe was reworked when they put a new SIG barrel on it.

Here are some more pics of markings and details.

Has the original zeroed to 300m rear sight with single side spring and DWM inspection mark.

The inspection marks on the stock and letter C

Minor damage to the stock caused by the rear sight packed next to it. Gives it character.

Very nice, I would say the sling is a US replacement, but who knows with old slings.

I know the feeling, mine has the exact same stock damage!

I will raise you your 55 with my 8 :googlie all the parts have a tiny 8. The Fraktur inspection marks all match my OVS. Not OVS marked, it is a Plezier Gewehr, so a bit different.

Sure would look nice with 55 sitting next to it... I DO know where a nice matching Steyr 1912 long rifle is...

It is interesting that your DWM is Chilean marked, and has most of the OVS markings, but no OVS stamp.

Yes sling is incorrect. Previous owner added it. Need to find the right sling. Do you know what the correct sling is and where to find it?

Are they OVS markings or DWM inspector marks? Others referred to it as ZAR. I must admit I am not well read on the Boer Wars.

I would be interested in buying a matching 1912 Long Rifle if you could PM me on how to proceed it would be greatly appreciated. A couple years ago they seemed plentiful now they have dried up except for a couple on GunBroker for $800+.

As far as slings go, I can only add that all of the Chilean rifles that I have that came with what "appear" to be original slings, are a wide, plain, black leather sling. It is an incredibly worthless sample, 2!

In reference to the 1912 long rifle, while it is a very good condition rifle, with a mint bore, I do not think you would want it. It is a floor plate mis match

Thank you for the info. Yes I am looking for all matching examples. My search continues.
