S/27 1938 Identification & Serial Number Help

A local gun shop is trying to sell this k98 to me, but it seems to me that the bolt is entirely different to the rest of the rifles parts. Could anyone help me figure out if the shop/previous sellers have butchered this find or if I’m missing something quite valuable here.

Additional markings and photos

A few more. It seems like the back of this rifle is also beat up quite a bit despite the metal looking relatively new

Bolt looks like it's from a Mitchell's Mauser. Numbering and chrome look terrible. The front band is wrong for a 1938 Erma. This one would be a hard pass for me.

It's a "cleaned" up Russian captured rifle. Looks worse than the Russian job. Somebody without much patience did that job.

Yes sir. That's an abomination. Not sure they could make it look worse?
The Russians were at least systematic and relatively consistent with what they did. This just looks splotchy and awful and lazy. But yeah the Russians ruined them

I had a feeling that the job to “restore” was more of a circus horror. The inconsitency was so obvious that I could even tell that there was a problem, and i’ve barely had much experience. The shop owner was trying to sell it for $1,000. Because of the condition I was barely even thinking about paying $500 dollars (although if I did find an excellent one, i’d be willing to pay 1-2,000 dollars).

Thank you all for the advice! I’ll be checking out some of the information in the forums and if you have any other tips, please let me know.

Thanks Again!
