EOD - bombs and bullets
Stumbled on this at the local Pawn Shop....still had a week to go on Pawn, but I threw some money down to hold it if it wasn't picked up, and it wasn't, so was able to bring it home. Apparently the nekkid flyer also saw this, although he didn't throw down fast enough...

When they said MAS 34, I thought maybe they meant MAS 36...never heard of a MAS 34, and when they pulled it out, I was stumped...but it looked right, so I threw the money down, figured I would research it while waiting...I was pleasantly surprised to find out how scarce they are. The Germans had a Fremdegerat Number for it, and quite a few of them are LK5 marked, but this one is not.

It is a bolt mismatch, but bolt is F 32904, the rifle is F 31474, so not far apart. Trigger guard and stock match. Missing horizontal trigger assembly screw, have that coming from Liberty Tree...when I picked it up, I also noticed its missing the stacking hook, so I will be on the hunt for one....

Pulled handguard...and found out its duffle cut...no import marks, so perhaps it was a bringback. Barrel marked MAS 1936...and RG...not sure what that signifies (The RG)....

Also any idea what the "E" on top of the receiver means? The buttplate has some stamps on top, hard to make out, may become clearer after some careful cleaning....unless someone know what they are...

I will disassemble and do some judicious cleaning....there is a wrap of ancient tape around the butt that needs to be removed, and some paint splatters.

It's been a long time since I bought anything French flavored, but I figured I would roll the dice on this, and I am glad I did. It will look good next to my 8mm Berthier carbine....now I wish I didn't sell off my pre-war MAS 36....

The 'E' on French barrels and receivers is a firing proof. I believe RG is the company that provided the barrel blank.

Pretty cool. I bought something French a while back, the models are all quite confusing.

Lol, just realized we bought the same model.

Farb, that's really cool, and a hard to find manufacturer...kind of the same model...

Yours is a straight up 1907-15 8mm carbine...

The 1907-15 M.34 MAS is actually a conversion of the 07-15 that started in around 1935...they were converted to fire the new 7.5mm cartridge, with a new barrel, rear and front sights, and a Mauser like internal 5 round magazine...roughly 65,000 were converted while waiting for MAS 36 production to ramp up

There are a ton of models and variations, and it is hard to keep track of...

Cool rifle, especially being a bring back.

That ribbed floor plate is actually brilliant when compared to the smooth floor plates of Mausers. Probably came in handy out in the field.

Is that a unit mark on the buttplate?

The buttplate markings, that's a good question...hard to make out, maybe a little judicious cleaning when I can will reveal them a bit better...

I did post it on the French boards at GB...if anyone would know, those guys will...

Got a chance to clean the stock a bit, and remove the old tape and residue...and look what I found under it...

Sweet find there! Look real close at the mismatched parts for any electro pencil numbers.

Cleaned up the buttplate....it is marked:

LS 541

138

That looks like a unit marking to me....did the French unit mark butt plates? WWI? Between the wars?

Or could it be German unit mark?

Yes sir, that was confirmed on the French board, E is the proof, RG is steel supplier, RG is unknown....

It cleaned up really well, the wood is really sweet, sharp finger grooves and edges...

I'd still really like to get to the bottom of the marking on the buttplate....I was initially thinking Luft Stalag 541, but there was no Luft Stalag 541...if it could be connected to a German unit, it might help define the meaning of LK5...

Now just need to find a stacking hook...they sell repro front bands with the stacking hook, may go that route...the hooks screw in like an M95 straight pull hook...
