Gew 98 dated 1909

I've had this rifle for couple months now. This Gewehr 98 was made at Mauser Oberndorf in 1909. I've only seen one or two dated 1909. She's a bit rough and about 50% matching. Probably was in someone's attic for about 60 years or so. No import marks. Could be a bring back. Can't really tell for sure. Sadly someone took to wrench to it. As you can see on the barrel and a little bit of the receiver. Overall she's not the best looking rifle but I'm happy with it.

1909 is handsdown the hardest year to find for "any" G98, no one made many, all the arsenals were totally engaged with the new Kar.98a production and only Spandau made a few G98's in 1908-1909. Danzig made a few G98's in 1908, but seemingly none in 1909 (though some receivers dated 1909 are known). The only makers of any note in 1909 (for the G98) is DWM, Mauser and Spandau, of these three DWM made more than the other two combined.

Oddly enough Spandau/1909 is roughly as common as DWM/1909 in observations, but DWM by serial extension significantly out produces them. Mauser was engaged in foreign contracts so their G98 production was small 1908-1913, they made roughly 10,000 G98's in 1909, both in literature provided by Jon Speed and in observations this figure is sustained. 1910-1911 Mauser did a small production run for the German Navy (KM), these are also very low production years...
 
Unfortunately it is not unit marked. I just need to find gewehr 98 dated 1908 and 1910. Finding one dated 1910 might be tough but I'll keep looking.
