Not a Mauser, but....

I wanted to share something that doesn't seem to turn up very often any more. This is an 1861 M60 Zündnadelgewehr by Saarn. This was one of the nicer examples I've come across with all matching parts, an intact needle and a correct bayonet (sadly the scabbard is lost to the ages.) The rifle is unit marked with a nice shiny bore. I've always been intrigued by needle guns, but the Fusilier model was one of my favorites. Just a classy, old world design. Anyway, here are some pics:

Chrisftk haven't seen you in awhile but it looks like you have been busy. Congrats on your find! And these are interesting rifles and I don't seen many needle rifles this nice either.

I still think your Jager 1871 Mauser is one of my favorites of your collection!

Very nice rifle! I love the light infantry needle rifles and the M/60 has one of the coolest bayonets. And it is in its original condition and has not be reworked with the Beck conversion too. Congratulations.

The unit marking would indicate that this rifle was used by the "Füsilier-Regiment „von Gersdorff“ (Hessisches) Nr. 80", 3 Company, Rifle 200.

With kind regards

Vincent

Thanks as always Warrior. ... Yeah the B71 is one of my favorites too. I've been buying more militaria than guns of late. A needle rifle is always enough to coax me to make a purchase. Now if I can just find a nice un-messed with Werder....

Vincent- thanks for the information regarding the conversion and kind words. One of the big attractions when I got this was the originality.
