Good day I’m now to this forum. I have just received a Mauser as a gift from my friend and all I know
Is it was produced around 1938. All he said it was a rare find back in the later 60’s early 70’s.any help
Would be appreciated.

Some guys here might be able to tell you something on it, but to me, its like trying discuss a car based on a close up of the door...

I would think more pics would be in order to really discuss it...

Looks like a commercially produced hunting rifle, with double claw scope mount...

A solid wall double square bridge is an uncommon and VERY desireable action. Can’t tell you a whole lot more about it. Looks to be a very nice untouched original Oberndorf. One possible issue, I don’t believe they ever relieved the bolts for a larger scope, that is likely a later modification and will affect value, close ups of that bolt will help. If that is an original feature to this rifle, it could be worth a few grand, if modified that will hurt a lot.

Those pictures help, sure does look original. Knowing it has the original mounts and scope would have certainly helped, a lot of those are mounted so high that depending on the scope they don’t need a bolt relief. Looks like a great rifle, and an awesome gift! You might try posting it on the German gun collectors association or the nitro express forums as well.
