PzB 39 Cleaning Kit

pzjgr

EOD - bombs and bullets
I understand these aren't seen too often anymore, this is the giant sized cleaning kit for the PzB 39 AT rifle (and not for the MG-34 as was often purported).

These seemingly were only made by G Appel, and this one has "64" marked tin, chain, and cleaning tool, while the oiler is marked cxn...

The tin is basically a giant RG-34 tin, marked with "64" and a stick eagle 20 on the end. The opposite end contains patches, just like the RG-34 (I forgot to grab a pic...)

The oiler and chain are also larger than the RG-34 components...I have pictured the oiler next to a standard one, also the tin...

The special chamber cleaning tool is "64" and stick eagle 20 marked....the other tool which is a ruptured case extractor/combo tool is marked with Eagle 4's...

There are two longer than normal brushes, a pin punch, and a spare firing pin and some other part also included. The parts are dfb and Eagle 4 marked. The firing pin dfb mark is hard to see, it is electro penciled on it.

The kit is pretty much mint, and complete as far as I know...I was looking for one for a long time, finally scored this one about 6 years ago....

Hope you guys enjoy.

Very hard to find complete with all of the components like this one.

Nice, complete kit. Often the spare PzB firing pin & extractor are absent in these today. Purportedly some (all?) were recovered from a landfill in Spain where they had been dumped some time in the 1980s. Now, what happened to all the PzBs they were made for is still an unanswered question to my knowledge, although one guy back in the day claimed to have personal knowledge some were still in Spanish storage.

Thanks for the comments and info from everyone!

Ah, so that's what that part is, an extractor....Interesting info on their possible origins, a Spanish landfill, boy, that must have been a hell of a find!

I was curious if this one was truly complete, sounds like it is, and certainly seems like its in new, unissued condition. Interesting while the tin is "64" marked, the oiler is later cnx marked...have any of these been found G Appel marked?

I wonder how many of the PzB 39's were converted into grenade launchers, seems like a good use for an obsolete AT rifle...One of either flavor would be an awesome addition to a collection! It would be nice if Spain sold them off, perfectly legal as is....

I am pretty sure it was Spain, but might have been Portugal (maybe I heard it both ways). The latter seems more likely, as Portugal got so many German Army standard weapons it would not be surprising if they acquired some PzB39s as well. I had one back in the mid 1980s...very nice rifle (not GrB) and it was all matched except the front sight block. Think it cost me about $6K at the time, and a clean one will bring closer to $15K now (though I heard a couple of years ago one sold at RIA for an outrageous sum). Could never find the steel cartridge boxes for mine, but some years later a number of them turned up (possibly from France).
