WIERD (at least to me) VZ24 german used

Ive been looking around for a while, trying to get a nice regular VZ24, a german used VZ24, and a nice G24t

well I scored the german used VZ first (if you dont count the beautiful VZ23/24 a fellow mod now owns that I miss dearly)

here it is....I admit I know ZERO about these...but apparently I got lucky....when I first got it, and keep in mind I got it at a real good price, I was ready to send it back for a refund...to me it was wierd, had some things that I didnt understand, and I was just after the normal run of the mill type

well, good thing I happen to have a good friend that loves close, and he collects these...I hope he will comment I dont want to put words in his mouth as far as description goes, he knows way more about these than I will ever know...he liked it and explained to to me

I thought that is was screwed with, I noticed penciled, or so I thought, numbers on a few pieces, the side sling swivel was missing, there is reused mag follower, the non matching number "19" on the middle band, I expected the bolt to be polished because the pics I got werent that great, and the bolt was in the white, I thought it should be blued...well....see for yourself...........

Now the interesting parts

side sling swivel removed....and why not? there is no sling cut out in this stock, it was not needed, the front and rear bottom swivels were used...

And small parts were matched up not by electropencil as I had thought, but by acid etching

two other things that threw me off, but I guess they were just reused parts....the follower had the numbers "76" dinged out with an "X" or **

and the middle band had the number "19" on it

Bore is nice, original VZ type cleaning rod, and some day soon Im going over to Pisgah's and were going to see what is under the wood

Textbook correct for that level of modification Jon. Nice rifle. The stock disc has the maker of the part, and the rework facility / depot on the other side, IMHO. I have one to that same level of rework, except it has stamped matched parts, with an Su4 disc.

As for the removed side swivel, I've seem some that had that provision apparently removed/ground flush. The majority of the time the side swivels were left intact. Nice rifle, congrats, pic stickied.

Just goes to show what a better set of pics can do. Miles136 sent me the seller’s pics of the bolt and there was considerable reflection across the numbered area which gave me some reservations. However, looking at this photo set, which is not only better but more detailed, I have no doubts at all. Great pickup!

Cool

That is a stunning rifle. I can't wait to own it ! You took a chance and it paid off ! ;)

The US WW2 blanket is now the pic background standard...

Ive been looking around for a while, trying to get a nice regular VZ24, a german used VZ24, and a nice G24t

well, good thing I happen to have a good friend that loves close, and he collects these...I hope he will comment I dont want to put words in his mouth as far as description goes, he knows way more about these than I will ever know...he liked it and explained to to me

A good friend that "loves" close.....I think maybe you and Pisgah are getting a bit too close...]]:suspicious::wink:

He sent the pix to me originally also and the bolt worried me too. In the original photos it looked polished. In person not at all. Nice rifle.

He who dares wins, or sometimes has a big shipping bill :moon: Congrats again JM, nice rifle.
