I am not into German daggers but I could not pass this up. My latest thing is I wont buy anything without provenance to an individual....thanks to a silver tongued, cur dog Louisiana lawyer. I like having a connection to a real person as it makes an object come alive. Everything is untouched since the war! Dagger is stunning in hand..oxidized as it should be.

Very cool Jack  I'm not a dagger guy but I really like that set. Much history there.

Fantastic find. I love all the 'extras' too! Probably my second favorite Eickhorn logo as well. Interested to know what the 3 cardboard like tube things are? Looks like I can make out Steinho.. and under it Wudberg?

Those cones are the mystery item....what are they and why are they worthy of sending home?

What are the different logos?

Do you store daggers in scabbards or not?

GIs sent home and souvenired some silly things. Probably the silliest was ceiling tiles with swastikas mailed home in a box. They didn't always get the cool combat awards and valuable stuff, they would get piles of MutterKruze and silling Nazi Gras (like Mardi Gras junk) party stuff, etc. You got the dagger, box, papers, with a side order of garnish ;)

I wonder if Ham is right and they're some type of party favor? If you could show better pictures maybe we can get to the bottom of it? I'd like to know.

The Eickhorn logo went thru quite a few variations. Always with the squirrel copywrited in 1921 I believe and many pushing down the sword. The very elaborate one is my favorite but I'm also partial to the 'demonic' one.

Do you use Ren Wax? Is mine the demonic squirrel??😂

This is the transitional one I refer to as demonic. demonic squirrel.PNG It's just how I see it, that's all. To me yours is the lesser ornate version.

Also I have not, but should probably consider it.

Carl Eickhorn began using a squirrel in various trademarks as early as 1906. The earliest versions featured two squirrels back-to-back in several variations some with, others without the CE initials beneath. The trademark evolved into a single squirrel holding an acorn over CE first registered in 1920. The single squirrel trademark saw several additional changes as well with perhaps a dozen or more variations (many subtle) until war's end. The trademark on your Heer Dolch was used from approximately 1935 to 1941 and is one of the etched and darkened variations of that design. Eickhorn really made a high quality product.

I store mine in the scabbards.

Nice Eickhorn

Nice one! That scabbard has kept that blade minty for the past 70 odd years and will do so well into the future. Just don’t let anyone put their fingers on it!!
From what I see it has the second pattern crossguard and scabbard bands, polished blade with much cross grain remaining and a C type grip.
Eickhorn was the most prolific producer of Army daggers and high quality to the very end.
The scabbard should have a centerplaced flat screw on the reverse. Hangers, portepee and capture papers are a bonus.
Maybe I will see this dagger walking around the Allentown show this coming weekend!??

more pics

Cone thing ? Pics from box.

Thanks for the further pictures. I'm pretty convinced they're party type 'noisemakers' or horns. I wonder if these items were gathered as he journied acorss Germany since Budberg is up in the Ruhr industrial district and that district day badge from Hesselberg is significantly farther south. Must be just things that caught his eye or he thought interesting I guess?

No squirrel in 1916; too busy? Or just only on 'dress' items? My dress bayonet is an "E Pack and Sohne" with a swordsman.

What happened to the coins? Were they still there?
