IDF K98k on bnz43 action made for the SS?

Absolut

Senior Member
Did I properly identify the receiver of this K98k made up for the IDF in Czech Republic as being a former SS contract receiver? There is no final acceptance on top (and no traces of it having been removed) plus no letter suffix to the serial (not 100% sure if the serial is still the original serial). Last digit of the serial number was digitally removed since not my rifle.

No waffenamt inspection in the right side - SS contract.

No final on top- both army and SS contract have that feature.

I don’t think the serial number is original WW2, probably from 44 production when serial was on barrel. I think that is an old SS contract Gusen made receiver though.

It doesn't have any Waffenamt proofs on the receiver at all. Thank you, that then would confirm it indeed being a SS contract receiver. Yes, I thought the same on the serial originally having been on the barrel only since the font used for the serial on the receiver does not look like a Steyr font.

Somewhat a bit of an odd combination, a former SS receiver later seeing service with the IDF.

Very odd to use this receiver in postwar production, good eye realizing this! Thanks for posting it for us to see.

IDF K98k on bnz43 action made for the SS.

Very interesting history. Look for the V7 stamp on the receiver. Is it still in 8mm?

I posted a similar rifle on this forum more than 2 years ago and the post was promptly relegated/moved to the Off Topic forum which doesn’t seem to exist anymore.

I’ve seen several SS contracts converted by the Israeli’s, what is unique is the use of an SS contract in postwar Czech production.

This rifle still is in 8x57 IS caliber. As mentioned the receiver is void of any acceptance markings. It also does not have a V7 marking.
