Thanks to fellow member 8x57 and his astute observational abilities I was able to pick up this Israeli Mauser for $5 above the opening bid which I thought was a more than fair price just for an Israeli forced matching bolt K98k. Nothing else appears to match except some small parts to each other. However it was an added bonus that at one time Swedish Captain Sten Stenmo left his inspector mark or his initials S.S.
If I understand correctly it was originally a 1940 147 Sauer K block in 8x57mm that was sold to Sweden and later converted to the m/40 Anti Tank rifle in 8x63mm. The manufacturer, year, serial block, and inspector stamps would all be correct for a m/40. It was then sold by Sweden to Israel who in turn converted it to 7.62x51mm. Then it looks like it may have ended up in Colombia before making its way to the United States. While it has some cool history IMO, unfortunately it isn't a $26k m/40 anymore, but I am happy to have it in my collection. Once again thank you 8x57.
Now I just need a matching Postwar Czech and East German.
