Unusual School Marked HJ Fahrtenmesser

Here is a seemingly unremarkable HJ example marked RZM M7/38 for Paul Seilheimer. No motto as would be appropriate for this later construction messer. The scabbard leather has the frequently encountered impressed LFS with Oak Leaf trade mark. What is unusual is the deeply impressed stamping of AUFBAUSCHULE SAULGAU to the reverse body of the blade. The marking stands for the Aufbauschule für Jungen Saulgau in Baden-Württemberg.A secondary or "middle" school associated with the German Home School Organization (Deutsche Heimschulen).Aufbauschule für Jungen Saulgau was initially a boys' boarding school. On 24 August 1941 Hitler ordered the creation of The German Home School Organization (Deutsche Heimschulen).During this restructuring the school was converted to the Deutsche Heimschule (German Home School) Saulgau, Building School for Boys.SS-Obergruppenführer August Heissmeyer served as the Inspector (head) of the Deutschen Heimschulen as well as the Nationalpolitische Erziehungsanstalten (NAPOLA/NPEA).Oberstudiendirektor Dr. Sihler was the Headmaster at Saulgau which merged with the Deutsche Heimschule Künzelsau in 1942.This creates a relatively small window in which this marking would have been used. The number of Home Schools in Württemberg changed over time but the number of institutions and students remained relatively small.1942 - 10 Schools/206 Students; 1943 - 12/265; 1944 - 10/199. In over 40 years of collecting I have seen only one other example.

Two period postcard images of the Saulgau Aufbauschule. Curious why the HJ-Fahrtenmesser from this particular school were marked and if similar examples exist for other Deutsche Heimschule institutions.

Is the site still active? I tried hitting the registration button and nothing happened. At some point I would like to obtain an early one with an intact motto that shows age and not abuse. I think it would fit with my training rifle collection.

yes still active, just logged out from there, sure Mr. Saris over there would have info on this & other school HJ knives, Yes agree with the motto is the way to go, after all the HJ lived by that motto.

Yes, the knife in your link is the only other example that I have seen. My knife is also shown on the HJ Research Forum and much of the information in the initial post above comes from Wilhelm Saris. As well as my own research. Thanks

It is a very nice acquisition, one of my HJ books mentions a HJ receiving a school dagger upon graduation. Cool to see one.
