OJT at Feima?

Never shared this but this 43 Sauer with Feima supplied receiver really looks like a case of some OJT gone wrong. So many aspects of it are bad, to the point of rivaling a bnz45! I’m pretty sure I’ve had 2 or 3 bnz45’s that were actually nicer! I can’t quite tell what’s going on under the rear receiver bridge, a forging flaw? Or an improperly aligned broach cut, or a dull broach that gauled in the receiver or perhaps a combination? Its twice reinspected and has improperly milled areas all over. The receiver tang is narrow on one side, the bolt lug raceway has a step in it etc. The receiver code was also nearly completely scrubbed off when initially working the forging and then restamped. Just an interesting receiver to examine on a 1943. This rifle is also interesting for the fact that it was a grenade launcher rifle, clear impressions and darkening of the stock in the exact area the rear sight mounts, also what I assume is an accompanying mild crack in the wrist.

This is a good example for the receiver flaws, which appear on 1942 and 1943 Sauer & Sohn rifles. Before the Führer decree in 1942 a receiver with these flaws would be scrapped, but after the Führer decree such receivers got repaired and used.

In autumn 1942 there was already a meeting of the Heeres Abnahmestelle with the Sauer & Sohn production manager and one of his technicians. The reason was among other things the flaws at Walther and Feima receivers. You can read more about it in the Sauer & Sohn chapter in Volume II.

Thanks for the detail photos!

Great example. Yes, The Sauer & Sohn manager was not to keen on the lack of waffenamt inspections and batch inspections, flawed receivers from Feima and Walther were a big issue with the finishing of guns, along with stocks from Haenel.

That receiver was probably returned to Feima by Sauer for those problems, hence the reapplication of the roll marked code, as the block code roll mark was done at Feima.

Interesting info guys, I’ll have to read that chapter again. I knew there was a semi common rear bridge flaw in their supplied receivers at one point, didn’t know there were issues to that extent though, very interesting! Seems to me lately I’ve been seeing a lot of restamped script font codes, including that sharp one Bruce posted.

That's pretty neat Clay. Here are a few pics of the one I have. It was used on an early 44 MO handstamp rifle.

Notice the two asterisk on the bottom receiver flat. I should go over it better and look for the flaws and picture them.

That’s awesome Jeremy! Only the 2nd one I can remember seeing not finished and polished by Sauer, nice find!

You certainly should! Seriously I'd love to see them. I've seen 2 awesome flaws posted this year and quite a few minor ones. Good stuff.
