Split handguard end

I have repaired splits on Russian and Finnish hand guards that are straight gaps. This one on 100yr old erfurt is V split at the end.

Should I just leave it alone?
Wood looks dry - should oil it?

If want to shoot it, will a spare k98 guard work?
