K98 Rear Sight Sleeve Replacement

I am about ready to replace a rear sight sleeve due to the fact that Bubba ground-off the upper handguard retainer lip on the existing one.

I plan to use a Bernzomatic propane torch to heat the sleeve.

When I install the new one, do I need to add solder, or will the residual solder around the barrel be sufficient. Also, can I use regular electrical solder, or do I need something more exotic?

All comments are welcome, thanks!

I have done this numerous times. Usually there is enough residual solder so that no addition needed. Regular soft solder is fine. I usually coat the barrel and the interior of the sight base with flux paste to insure adhesion but have also been successful without doing this. The only tricky part is getting the sight center aligned before the solder cools and hardens. Also care needed to make sure the set screw aligns with the hole in the barrel. That hole alignment may not be an exact match-up due to differences in tolerances. May require careful re-drilling after the sight is installed. #30/.128" dia. drill.
