8mm blanks

While sorting through a box I haven’t looked through for quite a while I found a little over 50 rounds of 8mm wooden projectile blanks. All are in 1930’s through 1944 cases and all are stamped with a circle on the base in addition to the usual data. Are these war time production and do they have any value other than perhaps reinacting?

I also found two rounds of 30/06 blanks by Frankfort Arsenal dated 1919. I’m not a cartridge collector so have no idea if these are uncommon or of any value.

Many thanks for any thoughts.

I’d say postwar done, period wood tips look different. These look an awful lot like the Egyptian wood tips we shot in the mg42 when I reenacted.

These are postwar, obviously using German wartime brass. I had several thousand rounds of this same ammo at one time. Though the "bullet" appears Egyptian, I seem to recall these being Norwegian or some such. I'll see if I still have a box of it Monday. It functions flawlessly through 34's/42's, so yes it has value to someone wanting really good blanks. FA 1919 blanks would be desirable to someone who collects GI ammo. Maybe a buck or two each, to someone who's looking for this specific date. Most GI ammo collectors would prefer a complete sealed box of 20.

Many thanks, very helpful information. I’m not a reinactor so I guess I will find suitable holidays to use the 8mm’s up. If anyone is interested in the 30/06 blanks I would be happy to give them away. Let me know.

This is what I thought when I first opened the photos. It's not unheard for reenactors to have done this. I once went to an event where a reenactor with a MP44 was using wood tipped blanks he had made by cutting down original WW2 made steel case 8mm Mauser rounds. I asked why use those since they were collectible. He didn't care about that. They were cheaper than buying commercial brass and cutting that down instead.

Just found the same blanks with the same head stamp with the added circle at Liberty Tree Collectors, turns out they are Danish from the late 1940’s. Who knew?
