RESEARCH PROJECT- Gl. V. Marked Rifles and M1916 Glasvisier Study

Very interesting! It then seems they continued the K to a higher serial as well. What is the lowest serial without the K marking you are aware of?

The lowest I have recorded is 725 that’s ‘k’ marked. Incidentally that’s the low number as well. A good emphasis would be for scopes north of 1600 but lower than 2500.

Well I guess instagram is good for something. I poached the new high number off it today. Pretty nice full rig minus the ridiculous eye cup that's been added, Glasvisier 6035. This one thwarts the idea that they only made 6000. I can't say for certain if this one is 'K' marked but it looks like it may be, probably just a scratch though. Any thoughts on that?

Capture.jpg1.PNG2.PNG3.PNG4.PNG5.PNG6.PNG7.PNG

I've never seen a rubber eyecup like this. But good to have a new high serial. He has a nice set, complete with front sight. Can you ask the owner for better pictures in higher resolution?

Edit. Obviously I had seen a rubber eyecup like this. No idea where I got them from, but I have some more pictures of the Glasvisier you have shown here.

.. And I found one more scope. Not sure who the owner is since it turned up on my mobile phone storage. Amberg, is this your scope and case?

... one more, this is from an internet website on various rare gun related items. I however have not saved the original source, only the pictures.

Just updated the thread with the most current data. Nineteen Glasvisiers have been recorded with a high number of 6035. Twenty-three rifles have been recorded at this point with eight of them (35%) being conventional snipers. I have Danzig 1918- 724c recorded as a sniper rifle, this is the only one I don't have photos of, if anyone here contributed this could you please confirm it's real and that I didn't just imagine it lol.

Danzig/18 724/c is Gl.V marked, I have pictures of it... these are GunBroker 2016

I also had not seen this mount in combination with a Gewehr 98 with tangent rear sight. Interesting rifle - wish I had seen it back then! Paul if you had saved it, for how much did this rifle sell and was there anything matching numbers on this rifle?

I did not see that auction either! :-((
Likely a trials rifle from September 1923. Stock is not correct. Should have a bolt cutout.
Attached photo shows two Reichswehr snipers, taken around 1925.
Please note the sniper on the right with full WW1 sniper rifle and the sniper on the left with G98 rifle and Zeiss Zielvier with Reichswehr mount (and 100 m RS).

March 3, 2016 Gun Broker pictures, PART I

The original owner emailed me in January of 2016 regarding the acceptance pattern, he wanted to make sure the barrel was original and for some thoughts on a correct stock. He didn’t send pictures of the stock then, but the auction he started in March of 2016 showed the whole rifle... here are all of the pictures from the auction. I did not save the text from the auction or final price, all I have are the pictures, the date saved and the original inquiry from January (which is less than informative as he didn’t know what he had, - nor did I as snipers are not my thing...)

Thanks.
Unfortunately the few documents I have about early Reichswehr snipers do not mention the rear sight. The rifle from GunBroker even might be a very late WWI gun.??
Another interesting detail shown in the photo is the strange shaped belt pouch. It's a WWI Ersatz material (stamped steel) pouch for a MG 08/15 spare bolt.

For your files:
Danzig 1917,
# 4883 cc, Goerz semi turret , Gl.V. rear sight.
and
# 4606 hh, double claw sniper, Gl.V. rear sight.

The rifles were on display at the 2013 SOS

Thanks for the report Wolfgang, I’ll be sure to get them added. Makes me wonder if there were orders for sniper rifles filled corresponding with the production of Danzig’s ‘cc’, ‘hh’, and ‘ii’ blocks during 1917.
