Picked up an Erma conversion unit

Repo Field Gear Collector
I picked this up at the last DACA show, actually from one of our members who was kind enough to hold it for me so thank you again. This is my first experience with one of these little units and it is quite interesting! The whole concept and design just screams of its German origin haha.

I received what is shown here and nothing more, so I may have to build a little box for it as well. I realized I failed to get any pictures of it out of the action, so I will have to snap some more, but I believe it is a bolt m/m. I lucked out with the donor rifle, it has a 7,92 bore and a decent bit of wear so the unit fit perfectly on the first try! I wasn’t expecting the bolt to be canted at such an angle when in battery so that was a surprise. It has an interesting mix of proofs, and some of them I can’t quite make out. Overall it’s a very impressively designed unit and I can’t wait to try it out, we’re planning to test fire it with another slightly later Erma unit and we’ll see how they stack up against eachother.

Sorry for the crap indoor lighting but I know Ken had asked to see it so I went ahead and snapped some.

That's really nice!I'd love to own one of these to use at my gun club but they're non existent in the UK.Im interested to hear how accurate it turns out.

Yes that's a really nice set, I have never seen a Erma conversion unit with this kind of magazine, it's interesting, is it a very early type? Thanks for sharing. :happy0180:

Thanks fellas! I too am curious how well it will shoot, we’ll see!

He explained to me that this is an early type of magazine, beyond that I couldn’t say when the new style started and this one stopped etc. This is all new to me, I’m sure most all of you could tell me more about it than I could, I’m just happy to be able to check it out and enjoy it :happy0180:

that's the 1st pattern mag. The obviously had issues with the spring breaking and improved the design. most are 36 dated. the second type is usually 37/38 dated

I built this replica box a few years ago as a winter project. I have a scaled shop sketch reverse engineered from available photos. If you are interested send a PM with your email address and I will send a pdf version.

That's a great box. The pictures are much easier on the eyes if rotated by 180 degrees.

I've given up trying get the pictures right. No matter the camera orientation and no matter how I rotate the image before I up load it they always come out wrong. Hints, Instructions, suggestions are appreciated......

That looks like really nice workmanship.

Thanks all for the compliments. As in most things the planning is tedious. The work is the fun part. It would have been much easier if I had an original to copy. Regards....

Excellent work sir! Looks really nice, I’ll shoot you a PM. My friend I got this from has one to look over but dimensions certainly would help! Thank you for the offer :happy0180:

Must have been a long winter :laugh: That is an incredible piece of work. Very nice and bookmatched cherry! Nice. I'd have been so nervous I would definitely messed that up. Great skills.

I was so excited to look at this I almost snapped my neck looking upside down, haha. Rotated in Photoshop.

I used American beech which is not that commonly used. Couldn't find any European beach as used in the originals.

Some addition pictures of other details.

Very nice Clay. I think you'll be surprised how smooth the action operates as well as the accuracy. My matched unit is currently in a bolt mismatch single rune Bnz 4. Spare mismatched unit is in an original box. Perhaps when you're up here you could give some tips on photography as I'm having a bit of trouble with that. I'll make sure the original box is available for viewing and dimensions as well.

Erma kit

Personally I love these conversion kits. In the last couple of years I have purchased 3 complete kits and one single shot version. The single shot was not cased. One of my buddies said he had a extra case . It was for the clip fed model' but the kit fits and it was free. The inleting on the above case was a work of art. Regards Banjomike

* Military open sights, creepy 2 stage trigger, factory variable ammo, mismatch bolt/receiver.....even a blind man like me can shoot these fairly well.
* 25Yds, B/Rest bags, 50 shots, shot-out ar'42 parent, f block mismatch mMSEL24.
* What a hoot!
Good Luck & Good Hunting
