Any idea what the markings on the side mean? Is it a vz24 or some other 98? Thanks for your help. Didn't mean to post in Intro. My first post. Rifle has a FM 24/29 French machine barrel in 7.5mm. 19inch.
 
Your rifle started out as a Czech 98 22. Looks like a sporter build. How about a picture or two of the entire rifle.
By the way, welcome to the boards! What neck of the woods you in?
 
I found a website which had the receiver markings for all vz24s dryfrom 1924 to 1939. According to it, receivers with M3 at the end of the serial # and the E 35 stippled over were part of 40 000 rifles bought by Soviet Union and shipped to Spain to fight in the Spanish Civil War. The attach pic is one of the entries for 1935. It pretty well fits my gun.
