Hello all,

I recently acquired a K98 that my uncle who passed away several years ago brought back when he came home from Vietnam. I do not have any papers or anything like that, but from doing some digging around on the internet, It isn't a russian capture from what I can tell? It looks to be very "sporterized" but my dad said that he did not modify it in any way, shape, or form when he brought it back. The stock has significantly been cut back, and from looking on the internet, it is a 1939 model "147" stamped on the receiver. It also has not been cleaned at all.

Attached are some pictures...Bolt Area.jpg

It is indeed a Russian Capture. Russia supplied Vietnam with thousands of them. This one has had the stock cut (post issue to Vietnam) from it's original form.

It holds all the hallmarks of a RC rifle being total mismatch and supplied to Vietnam. I suppose one could have ended up there and lost all of it's original parts and someone in Vietnam had a bunch of K98 parts to make it serviceable again but it's unlikely.
