11621738-7726-46B5-AC29-545F38762297.jpg Greetings all. New here and wanted to show the stock of my 1916 Danzig. I refinished the stock in 1973. I thought EWB was the initials of the previous owner, so I filled them in with wood putty prior to stock finishing. Recently retired, with time to conduct research on some of my firearms, and discovered my error. Decided to resurrect my mistake if possible, and spent over two hours the other evening painstakingly “digging down to the black” with an ice pick. Was relieved to see that most of the organizational marking was still there. Look forward to learning much from you folks, and Happy New Year from Richmond, Virginia.

Welcome to the forum! Hey, there was a lot worse done to rifles back in the day before people really started caring about the history, at least you still HAVE the stock :biggrin1: looks like it spent some time in Spain.

So possibly spent some time in WW1 trenches, Bavaria and Spain? Ach du Leiber und Aye Carumba! Thanks in advance for any additional incoming information.
