EOD - bombs and bullets
Picked this up last weekend at the Dallas DACA show in a trade deal....It is a Polish made 85mm Training round, made with actual components, except the fuze which is a dummy...Projectile and case are real, just turned into a training round.
It is for the upgunned T34/85 which replaced the relatively low powered 75mm on the original with a high velocity 85mm gun.
It has the original stenciling on the side of the case, and is stamped "TRAINING" on the projectile in Polish.
It is interesting to compare the rounds in the picture...
Starting at the left, you have two US 90mm rounds. The 90mm was the US answer to the 88....the Sherman started the war with a rather anemic 75mm gun, the same case as used by the French and US 75mm field gun of WWII. They were upgunned to a new 76mm gun (as a stop gap) which was the same bore diameter for all intents and purposes, but a much longer slightly bottlenecked case, so it had a much higher velocity than the earlier gun.
The 90mm gun was developed early in the war as a towed AA/AT gun, and was further developed into a vehicle gun, and armed the M36 Tank Destroyer, and the M26 and M46 tanks.
The first round is an HE round, the second a HVAP-T, High Velocity Armor Piercing, Tracer round.
Next to those is the German 88mm Flak 18/36 and KwK 36 round (discussed extensively recently).
Then the Soviet 85mm round for the T34/85 tanks.
Then the German 75mm KwK 40 round used in the long barreled StuG III's, and the PzKfw IV's....
Then the German 88mm FlaK 41 round, not used in tanks...
Then the German SK C/32 Kriegsmarine 10,5 cm
And finally the 75mm PaK 40 round...
