Just picked this up. I have a cof 44, but my other is resin gripped. Common bayonet but I bought it due to the "mismatch", condition, and variant wood grips. Seems as if wood and resin grips are interspersed in late 43 and 44 production, but this forum would know better than I. Anyway, it's never had a frog on it and has black storage grease flecks hardened on it. Screws haven't been turned. The scabbard in certain light is noticeably quite purple. I've seen this on blades. Some people like this, but technically it is a defect in bluing that sometimes shows up later as the blue oxidizes. It is caused by, or a combination of, weak/contaminated bluing salts, excessive heat during the bluing process, and steel content.
