Third Party Press

Lets try this again.

Last week I posted a few pics of a K98 inquiring authenticity on. I was told that I would need better pictures so I hope I delivered this time around. Missing handguard and bandspring. Other than that everything seems to be matching. Slight mis-stamp that I am curious about located inbetween receiver and rear sight appears to be a mirror 9 to right of S/N. Was told today by a young cat like myself at Cabela’s gun library that due to the slight rust on inside of bore this k98 was a potato shooter and rendered it useless. Y’alls thoughrs ??

https://ibb.co/bW4KMFB - Bayonet - Both S/N’s
https://ibb.co/XCXPzLm - Rear Sight S/N

The rest are overviews.

I really took my time with this, I hope I delivered quality photos that made the difference on getting a good look from far away. Thanks everyone.

Great pictures! As far as the bore goes, I would just scrub it like you would any other firearm. Fire a good 20 rounds through it and then scrub it again. I bet you wont see any rust after that. From the picture the bore looked decent to me. Nice looking rifle. The original condition really sells it. Bronze wool and light oil will help clean up that surface rust. Remember to take your time though. I have a band spring if you are interested. Send me your info and Ill just give it to you. Someone else here might have a decent handguard that would match the stock. John.

Thanks John, I appreciate your response. Yeah, I didnt plan on keeping it, was in grandpas closet for 75 years so I was going to leave the gun as is for the buyer to decide what they want to do with it. Tells more of a story in my opinion!

The young cat at Cabela's is clueless. The missing hand guard is a shame but overall this looks like a nice, honest rifle to me! I think you made the right call to let the next owner decide if he wants to address the rust issues. Hopefully it'll go to someone that can appreciate the rifle!

When you sell it, give these guys a chance at it by putting it on the forum trader. Also if you know how your grandpa got the rifle, Like if he was in military, in WWII and captured or picked it up, plus where and when. It will add to rifles collectability.
