Some Steyr K98ks

Requesting the opinion of some experts. I'm looking at two different bnz k98k rifles and would like some input as to their authenticity.

The first is an SS contract bnz 44, the numbers seem to match and it doesn't look sanded to me, but other than that I don't know how to tell if it's actually an SS contract rifle, I'm not sure how these get faked.

I thought that rifle looked familier thanks for the link Clay. Is the seller still wanting $2500 for it by chance mb44kar? If so still too much for a non matching bolt k98k rifle. Plus I believe the stock was cleaned too. The original buyer bought it out of Wichita, Kansas years ago from what he posted.

The other bnz, which only makes the claim of being matching:

My apologies, I should have probably searched this on the forum before.

He's asking $2000 for it. I thought it was odd that it's been sitting on Armslist as long as it has.

Well $2000 is still way too much for it. At the end of the day it is still a SS contract K98k rifle but the bolt is not matching, and the stock has been cleaned. Which devalue the rifle alot. Most collectors would like to get a rifle like this for maybe $1000? Only because the SS contract is really its only saving grace.

Even if the rifle was only a bolt mismatched rifle and the stock was alot nicer and untouched. Collectors would pay more. Stocks are big part of collecting military rifles and when they have been messed with. That devalues items.

It does seem too much, I've been looking at this listing with my head cocked for a little while now and trying to figure it out. Thanks for the info. I've been looking for some k98k's with untouched stocks that don't require mortgages, so I'll cross this one off the list. I'm also trying to figure out what distinguishes the different manufacturers' stocks, for instance the bolt cutout of this SS contract rifle looks like the bolt cutout on a lot of byf rifles (high and straight-walled) or possibly dot rifles (straight-walled), and doesn't really match the second bnz I posted.
