Question for those Gew 98 serial number scolars

sorry for the late reply!
From my point of view, it does not matter if you call it a fake, enhanced or bubbaed. The additional applied rifle# is not period/original. For me it is a fake.
I did not have the additional photos showing the bases when I said/wrote: "rifle and bases look ok". With that photo provided by "Absolut" the rear base looks like one of the recent french reproductions.
The original front base is for a Voigtlaender 3x scope.
@ Jeff Noll: if you have the chance to give that rifle back to the seller, do it! It is not what it seems to be and probably not what it sold for.

PS: before some idiots applied the additional rifle#, that scope was a perfect example for an early military OIGEE scope!
It is so sad, bubba got his fingers on it.

The attached photo is from about 2000. All scope cases are complete with the correct scopes. Some are matching.
And I added some more in the meantime.
I think I know what I'm talking about.
