I’m not sure. Maybe this band was not fully seated against the hand guard for an extended time in its life?
 
Regarding the "shadow" near the rear band spring. I agree with the guess that maybe the band was not fully seated for awhile.
(maybe when it was disasembled for bring home?)

Years ago, I bought a really nice Japanese T99 rifle directly from the vet.
I spoke with him for a bit while purchasing it. He had disassembled his rifle to bring home then reassembled it and put it a closet where it sat until 2008 when I bought it. (never shot it because there was no ammo)
The rear barrel band had been put on turned backward in 1946 and sat that way until 2008. I put it on correctly, but there is a very distinct "shadow" on the stock and top handguard as a result.
 
Byf 43

Hi, I have a question:
Is it possible that with a byf 43 a visor 1st generation (rear side also numbered with distance) is mounted.
Number from K98 is 4 digits with suffix kk. Thank you.
