My One and Only G-43, ac 44....

EOD - bombs and bullets
So this gun was, I believe the first or second post on this G-43 section probably a day or two after this board was born.

I thought I should revisit it since that was a long time ago, and I had some really crappy pics...so I took her downstairs and outside for a photo shoot today...

This came out of a large collection of a deceased collector in Buffalo area, I got it probably circa 2006 or so...He had a hang tag on it that described when he got it and where, and there was a note on it that there was further information in his notes, but unfortunately the son never found those.

When I bought it the gun was complete with hood, proper G-43 sling and rod. The mag was a painted mag, but was devoid of paint, I did re-paint it. The stock was lightly sanded, and had that great big gash in it...have no idea what caused it, but I am assuming it received it during service use.

I eventually found the scope from a friend, just the scope. It has shite optics, but the price was right. It was also missing the cover on the top knob...which I was lucky to find one right here last week (thanks Lynn!) so now its at least complete.

Found the mount separately, figure that is repro, but in any case it looks cool all together.

It is all matching. While its not perfect with the because the stock has been sanded, as I said back in 2010 when I posted it, I am happy with it. Oh, I paid $1k for it back then, and that was cheap at the time too. That's why I'll probably have another...although damned 98k's cost almost as much as G-43's anymore....

Anything else that stands out to any of you G-43 guys?

Too bad on the sanding. Whoever sanded it probably did it because of the stock gash. Probably just didn’t know any better. Would have been cool to see what the gash would have looked like before the sanding. Looks like he took care not to hit the side stock waffenampt very bad. Did he leave the keel/wrist stamps in tact or did they get wipped out? Looks to have finish loss on the bolt carrier.

Does this one have ribbed or flat butt stock door? I’m guessing ribbed?

I’d have to get a shooter’s kit and shoot this one. Bet it would be a fun one to blast away with.

Yeah, the mag...when I got it had maybe a few flecks of paint left, enough to figure out along with some research it would have been painted when new...since so little was left, and it looked kind of crappy, I cleaned it up, de-greased it in MEK, moly-coated it and baked it...thought it turned out looking sharp, bit not original finish...

Kelly, like you said, not too badly sanded, I too wonder how that gash looked prior to sanding, it is DEEP thats for sure...I'll look to see if I can see the stamp on the wrist...like you said he hit the stock side stamp a little, but at least it is still visible.

Never shot it, likely never will....I got a scare with my first G-43...which I got probably around '92...didn't know much about them, couldn't wait to shoot it. Got some surplus 8mm (I don't remember even what flavor), loaded a mag, put it in, charged it, pulled trigger...bang! Went to pull trigger again...nothing.

The bolt carrier was locked in the back position...I couldn't get it loose by pushing, or judiciously tapping it...I wasn't going to mess with it, so I packed it up and took it home, went to a friend who was way more knowledgeable than me...he took a look, got a rubber mallet and whacked it, and it went forward...

What happened was the sliding cover was broken in the front, or something, and the bolt carrier rode over top of it and stuck open.

Never tried shooting it again....figured it shot pretty much like any other semi I shot before, didn't want to risk it, and never did with this one.

Wish I was able to find out the other info the guy who bought it has, but never could.

If I were to stumble on another really righteous one, I'd likely sell or trade this one off, but we'll see on that...

Oh, I have a repro manual in the butt, but no other giblets...

Figure its just a good representative example...at least it is matching, so I got that going for me....:happy0180:

Gotsta have all the giblets!

That is a problem that some of these encountered was jamming up with the sliding dust cover.

Yea... Similar story. I got an AC45 Dual lug all matching and 95% finish perfect except the stock which has the worst duffle cut possibly ever at an auction at the end of 2017, my first, Couldn't wait to shoot that bad boy. Thru some ppu in, five rounds later bolt stuck. Rear recoil rod got bent and the rear recoil guide got stuck on it. Darrin Weaver hooked me up and sent me new parts. Shot another 10 rounds thru it with no issues...except splitting the top handguard... but probably will be the last time I'll shoot it. Sucks.. because everytime I see it I want to load a couple clips with some 8mm goodness and take that bad boy to the range. Reluctantly, I control myself and take one of my 22 trainers instead. Figure 22lr can't do much damage to a gun.
