Im not a sniper expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I can say the stock is certainly snaded and we definitely need more pictures of the gun than just 3. I know you are restricted as of now but they will need close ups of things like stamps, numbered parts, machining marks and etc.

Not trying to be sarcastic at all but that would be like trying to tell if a car is ok by only 3 shots of the exterior. What is the milage? How is the frame? Is there any body work done?

Post the additional pics as responces to the original post

Here are a couple of extra pictures

Too early a gun to have those mounts and looks like a Russian capture X hiding under the mount. Or an original sniper and looks to be reworked.

I appreciate the replies here guys many thanks! I think I’ll pass as I don’t want a Russian capture. It’s much more of a mine field than I’d anticipated.

Not an original sniper. Too early a rifle, fake base and scope is not German military either. Not worth your money. Pass

Wise choice, this rifle is a Frankenstein’s monster for sure. You’ll find a good one, don’t worry. Keep an eye on the trader section of the forum right here! That is THE BEST place to get an honest legit rifle at a fair price.

Agreed with everyone, the Germans would never shim a 25.4mm scope into a 26.5mm ring

Or as he did, he'd surely have did his best Dick Van Dyke voice singing..... " shim shimmeny, shim shimmeny, shim shim sharoo…."

Hello again! I’ve just made a purchase, could anyone assist me with the markings in the pictures below?
I’ve got a way to go before I start getting used to all the codes etc, any help is greatly appreciated!

James

Rifle is a JP Sauer 1942 with a later post war Birmingham nitro proof. Brought home to Britain by a Soldier? Some from on continent post war? I'm sure others will chime in. You'll get more input if you photograph more markings? Check the wood carefully.

Here are some more pictures of markings, I hope this helps! I am so happy this is a wartime German made Mauser rifle, I’ll take a couple of pictures of the rifle from both sides as a whole in a little while. It’s on my FAC section one license, I hope it shoots well!

I have just learned I am terrible at taking pictures on an iphone camera with bad lighting. My apologies gentleman.

There are three nazi stamps on the woodwork alone, in the daylight tomorrow I shall take pictures and post them here for more assistance.

Cheers guys!
