The G98/40 has a two-piece stock, that is the assembly band/point. Like an Enfield.

My first thought was maybe that’s where a piece of tape was or maybe an old label of some kind (for a display)? Regardless, that’s a stunning rifle!

Tape residue. Maybe had capture papers or something written where it was obtained
