P38 was made in Spreewerk on January 1943, WAA88 marks. There are two CIP marks. All match. After WW2 was hidden for 65 years (as illegal gun), in 2010 was legalized (guns amnesty).
Magazine has JVD (original).

Whoa! That one is real early for Spreewerk. Neat pistol. Love the mag too. It’s a little later mag for this pistol. The “correct” mag would be an e/88 spine stamped mag. “Correct” in that an e/88 mag would have most likely been issued with this pistol.

Might check the inside parts. They may have Walther e/359 stamped parts in it. Walther assisted Spreewerk when they first got started and some real early guns have Walther made and inspected parts in them.

Nice NLS. As Tiger said, they were getting started up in Grottau and you might have a few Walther parts mixed in. Is there a number on the frame under the left grip? Seems they had an in-house tracking means which used such numbers (theory anyway).

Yes and no.
P38 from Spreewerk had 5 production series and 14 variant. Stamp 359 had 1st series and 1st variant. Some pistol this series and variant had stamp 211 (very low SN, until 70).
My P38 is 1st series and 2nd variant (SN between 501-3600c). This pistols didnt have stamp Walther.
Magazine have 16 production types, my magazin is first (correct). I have book about Spreewerk, you can see production types in pictures (sorry for bad quality).
The most of magazine was made in manafacture in Erste Nordböhmische Metallwarenfabrik (Adolf Rössler), Niedereinsiedel.

I removed grips, and on P38 are not any stamps. Stamps are on grips, made by AEG (stamps 38) - Allgemeine Elektricitäts Gesellschaft, Hennigsdorf. Stamp Z3 - used material - in this case Bakelite.
Stamps P1529 - left grip
Stamps P1528 - right grips
This grips are used in 1942, and beginning 1943.

Very cool Martas  I've never seen a cyq that early. What's need is you can tell they were working out the bugs on the roll stamping on the slide. Thank you for sharing this and the information. Pic sticky for reference.

It is also very good that there was a "gun amnesty". Here in the US many have said it would be a good idea to do this again for some of the fully automatic WW2 weapons still out there.
