Sauer 42 "n" Block....

pzjgr

EOD - bombs and bullets
Sauer 42 "n" Block...."e" block added...

I really lucked into this one earlier this week, local DFW guy was helping to liquidate his Uncles gun collection which was mainly lever guns and SAA pistols...he wasn't sure on this one, and posted a few pics and wanted to know potential value. I gave him some ranges depending on matching, condition, then PM'd him that I would be happy to look it over and perhaps purchase it.

He said he would be happy to have me look at it, and we met last night...It was very nice, I made him an offer, he called his aunt, she was thrilled, and I am the new owner.

Sauer "n" block 1942 gun...I don't think it was ever out of the wood, when I disassembled it, it still had the sealing wax/gunk between the metal and wood. Stock is super crisp. Came with a really nice sling, rod and hood, all original to the gun I believe...The sling is marked dl(?) 42 I believe (its a bit faint), and frosch is marked COG...

Paul, the bolt body only has a number "6" stamped on the back face, as shown, other than the s/n...also barrel code is a cursive letter (pictured) G, and two E/37's, thats it...

I think I pretty much got everything in the pics...

I was super happy to actually get one out of the woodwork so complete and nice!

That's probably correct. Just look at the screws. Doesn't look like they've ever seen a screwdriver. You got a real nice one! Good call on the stickie Ham.

Very very nice.... I hope you left the wax/grease at the wood line? Also, your photo skills are good enough you can remove the white "stuff" in the ce 42 etc... Not necessary/needed imo.

Oh, yeah, learned my lesson a long time ago, back in the 90's, early 2000's thought that was just gunk that built up, then learned it was there on purpose...just left it be, after recording the info, I just put it back into the stock untouched...

The white stuff. yeah, I put that there, I always do the crayon thing...cut my teeth on BBOTW, always liked the way its stands out, and it looks cool the way I display them...its just crayon so it'll come out easy enough, but I like 'em like that....

Killer rifle, my Sauer jealousy is high! Right out of the woodwork with white crap on it, I don’t think so!? :moon: just kidding that’s very nice! :happy0180:

Thanks for the great pictures, if you can though, I would like to see the bottom flat, I know it is blank (should be), but I would like to record it with absolute accuracy.

JPS and MB were the strictest of the mfg's following the directive, they made a lot of the components and you don't see a lot of markings on the rifles in this rather narrow time frame. Other than pre-war this is next most interesting phase imo, the Germans/national socialist were finally realizing they could lose the war... later when it was beyond obvious they would lose no matter what they did, started to resort to more extreme measures and sheer barbarity, all that produced is garbage, this was still when the rifles were good and interesting.

Paul, the bolt body only has a number "6" stamped on the back face, as shown, other than the s/n...also barrel code is a cursive letter (pictured) G, and two E/37's, thats it...

Sure thing Paul, I can do that...thanks for the insight, as always!

Guys,
In putting in this nice ce 42 n block, I noticed that our pic sticky reference has grown over the years thanks to all of you. Really good stuff and info, so stop by and get lost for a couple hours if the weather is bad ;)

If any of you see "holes" in the reference and can point to threads we are happy to update.

Congrats to your new Sauer & Sohn and thank you very much for all the detail photos! The rifle was assembled around September 1942 and the stock completion date code means April 22, 1942. It suits perfect to Sauer & Sohn in 1942.

By the way, here I have marked something interesting at the rear sight leaf: CE 42 Number.jpg

Regards,
Stephan
