Default K98k bnz 44 with stamp "VST"

    Hello collectors,
I had seen a K98k from bnz production (o-bloc) of the year 1944; the bottom of the butt bears the stamp "VST" and right on the butt along the butt plate a four-digit number?
Is this an original stamp and is the meaning of this stamp known?
I havn´t any idea what "VST" could mean; as an abbreviation of Volkssturm it wasn´t stamped as far as I know.
Could it be a postwar appreciation?

That’s a super early KM if that’s legit are you sure it’s not a poorly struck Q block?

    Hi John,
thanks for Your assessment - indeed this can sometimes be observed.
The K98k comes of an old collection from Austria and there You will find this kind of ornament actually rather rare, which is why I wanted to ask if anyone in the forum is known such a stamp.

    Hi flynaked,
yes a very early KM, but the stamp on the barrel and on the bolt show clear and deep "o" - an error can be excluded
