The shop wants $100, but will take $80 out the door. I don’t know the first thing about these. Is it worth it, and if so, what’s it current approximate value? Thanks!2D38AAAE-5D2E-4EE1-8600-F312745B1199.jpg

I don't know much about German gear but that wool cover is not WW2 German. I don't know what it is but it isn't WW2. So I would pass at that price.

Maybe another person with better knowledge can chime in.

Not an expert on it but there is one listed on a popular auction site that is a dead ringer for the OP's canteen photos.
Listed as a Medics Mountain canteen, cup and strap.
Starting at $150.00 with no bidders.
Shop is in CT.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck,
Mark

The buttons on the cover look correct. The cover looks similar to the m44 pattern. But like said above. I am not a expert either. John.
