Attended the Allentown Show this weekend. I only found one new bayonet that I needed. The scabbard was cleaned hard but it is matching and unsharpened. I decided that it could at least serve as a place holder. Let me know what you think.

Looks to be a very decent bayonet. Don't know that I would say the scabbard was "...cleaned hard". Have seen a number of earlier bayonets where very little bluing remained on the scabbard outside of what was protected by the frog. Often the bayonets themselves still have a good degree of finish remaining (blade in particular). Scabbard was likely cleaned up a bit, but the bluing was mostly long gone already from service use.

I like it too. Early Elite appeal to me for some reason. Matching and unsharpened so important as you know.

I appreciate everyone’s comments. Maybe it is not as bad as I thought. I have been picking bayonets from CanadianAR so I might have gotten spoiled:thumbsup:.

This S/175 37 is the most worn bayo in my collection. I decided to keep the piece because it exhibits extensive service use, was matched, and has that distinctive "been there" look about it. What caught my attention were the wood grip panels. The left side is clean and benefited from being sheltered by the frog body. The right grip is more worn and became both smooth and polished, as the German Soldat whom was issued this bayonet, swung his tunic or greatcoat sleeve across the grip untold thousands of times (and likely for several years) auf dem Marsch. The spanner nuts are even worn, and devoid of any finish as well. If ever I saw a Veteran combat bayonet, this is it...

Yours shows more bluing remaining where the frog would have been. The worn finish on both our examples is very similar. I guess I was being hard on the bayonet as I would be very satisfied with your example. I don’t have many 1937 examples from any of the makers. Better to find one than find none.
