Rc s/42k

Unusual code so I thought I'd post this RC. I'm rather fond of Mauser Oberndorf especially (and Mauser Borsigwalde) and have been wanting to find an early K or G for some time. I tripped across this one recently and picked it up. The bore is very good to near excellent, a bit surprising for a first year K98k that ended up on the Eastern Front.

I've included pictures of the markings I believe are most relevant for SN and barrel code collecting but I'm happy to fulfill requests for other pictures.

This is one of those RCs that makes me wish I had both the original stock etc. to match the barreled action and the original rifle that matches the stock. The early Steyr (number in barrel channel and also externally behind pistol grip, 6540a) appears to be Luftwaffe marked.

That's a great looking rc! Deff. Keep her! Nothing but love for RC's here as well. I bet you're crazy stoked about the condition of the barrel. My RC has an excellent barrel as well but mine is a later rifle.

I had a G in the past but some knuckle head grinded off the Weimar eagles! Just.......why?!

One of the nicer RC rifles I’ve seen. Also awesome it’s a first year. I have an RC G Date S/42 myself and it’s a great shooter.

Thanks! Yes, barrel condition is a nice bonus on any RC since they're good candidates for regular shooters. It's also always a positive for resale in the unlikely event that I run across a nice matching S/42K and decide to find a new owner for this one.

Nice early RC. Here's mine, a S/42 1936 in a semi-kreig stock. I love these early ones.

Nice rifle - Scare/Rare code. I have a Norwegian Capture, helps fits that year of production for my collection (1x K98 for each year of production and at least 1x of each maker).

Here’s my G Date

Thanks! Sounds like a good collection. I have a 1940 660 Norwegian M/98k-F1. It's a favorite shooter, as the U-notch rear sight suits my older (than my 57 years) myopic, astigmatic, slightly cloudy eyes well.

I love the RC's, thanks for posting.

This is the oldest one in my collection as it is now. Bore is mirror bright.

Had a G Date but sold it off. :(
