    Lightbulb Lookie what i found!!!!!!

If anyone would be willing to take the time to tell me what I have here, I would greatly appreciate it! There are so many markings on it, I hope I didnt miss any!! but Im curious to know what each means...
Also, the blade is black with what i can only describe as soot, it rubs off on my hands, but my question is, how would i go about cleaning it? what is safe to use?
Again, I appreciate any and ALL input!!

This is a WW1 German bayonet for the Gewehre 98 rifle. The bayonet is also known as the "Butcher blade". It has unit markings on it which is not always the case making it much more desirable for collecting. I know little about unit markings but others will reply with more knowledge than I have on the subject. But I will say hold off on cleaning for now. Removing the old patina will decrease possible value. For now just wipe it with a dry rag to remove dust, then a light wipe with a good gun oil. If however your intention is to sell, leave the dust on it. The potential buyer will prefer it most likely.

It's desirable, but how desirable depends on better pictures... these will not get you a "great" price, while made in 1915, its true value lies more in its Republican era markings.

The Pw.B. is a Weimar era Bavarian police marking, cool find!

Great add! That ID and weapons permit for the PwB Commander is really neat.

A huge THX to all who replied. I will take better pics and post soon. And I wont do any type of cleaning. I now can do better research to figure out what each marking is and what the butcher knife is worth!!!

    Butcher knife?
In thanks for you all in the forums, I offer this, albeit small:
If anyone has any questions regarding garage doors and openers, feel free to ask. Been working on them for 25 years.
