Camo gas mask can

This is a gas mask can I picked up at a recent small militaria show. The older gentleman had a very nice 1944 dated German rifle grenade box that I was interested in for storing some of my WW2 German ammo in 15 round boxes. I noticed he had a few empty German gas mask cans. A couple were the standard green color and this was the only camouflaged one. I have a small assortment of WW2 camo items so I bought this to add to my modest collection. I know nothing about these cans but I assume it is a variation of Normandy camo pattern which I find particularly appealing.

I noticed the bottom of the gas mask can had more vibrant colors. I’m not sure if it is due to the fact it was not exposed to the elements as much depending on how it was displayed, such as sunlight or something else that could cause this. I didn’t even think to check if it had the lenses until I had it for a bit. I took a picture with the lid open to show a bit of color contrast between the original paint and the added camo paint. The date on the lens box is 1941.

I paid $40 for it. I figured the replica cans go for that and the camo pattern looked cool, I wasn’t overly concerned if it was real or not. I don’t collect these so I have little idea if it is a repro paint job or real. The rifle grenade box was real and I got it for $40 dollars as well. I posted this can for additional scrutiny if it is not authentic I’m ok with it. Just give some specific details as to what is not correct about it or how the “patina/aging” was done to the paint. I know most Normandy cammo is fake and I never would pay top dollar for anything I don’t know much about. $40 dollars is no real risk I enjoy this forum because it gives me a good opportunity to learn. Thank you.

Ok, glad you are happy with it. Just want to let you know in case you paid much more for it, 40 Usd is an ok price.
Best !
