Hello all,

Trying learn what I'm looking at and learn to spot problems, not planning to buy this, but sure would appreciate any help.

Does the cocking piece look humped as far as machine marks being straight instead of a circular lathe tool marks finish, also looks a little angled?

Said to be an elm stock, but is this too late of a date for elm?

Shouldn't the recoil bar be riveted by '45 or are there exceptions?

Appreciate the help!

Looks like a nice rifle from what I can see. Recoil bars marked “f” do show up on byf 45s and the stock looks to be walnut which is a plus.

I agree, walnut not elm. Phosphate Astrawerk bolt. You don't show the left side but guessing no letter block. Bolt root would be correct as is the bolt shroud and cocking piece. I can see the stamp on stock right and keel look like correct size and location. A few more photos of those areas and the bottom metal would probably seal the deal.

Thanks for the reply, here are a few more pics:

The "f" recoil lugs are actually pretty common throughout 44/45 MO production. I have several in my small collection starting in the "a" block of 44 and going through to the byf45's. I don't own or have any recorded after the "a" block byf45's but it wouldn't surprise me if they show up later.

So normally the presence of a Heimag recoil lug might cause one to suspect some Gustloff stock parts monkey business, in this case your examples, BiOs excellent '45 a block and citations by others just confirms this piece is good to go on this example. The huge sample size of the collective here as well as the dedicated trend work by several members is what makes this site so great. I'd say the same thing about the way the 'camp gun' was examined. Good stuff!
