Picked up a G43 last week. DuV44.

Hey all,

Picked this up at a Gunshow locally. Decent condition G43 Duv 44.
Everything matches except the bolt , which seems to match itself the bolt and the locking kits are same serial.

Rest of the rifle matches including the stock. Magazine is also an original.
Mechanically the rifle is in good shape, no cracks or peening at all, barrel is good with nice rifling still.
I plan to shoot this once I get the shooters kit in the mail and the springs kit, I purchased frontline militaria


What should I know about before I shoot it? Is the new Privi PPu 198 Gr Mauser 8mm good ammo to use for this? I have a few hundred of it for my Mauser 98K.
Any insight is appreciated , I am familiar with G43’s , but not expert in them.


So;
Got the rifle home, and the stock was really dirty , basically looks like it was never cleaned in 60 years dirty.


And after about 3 hours with mineral spirits and a cloth, I got the original finish to come back to life. And then applied about 3 coats of boiled linseed oil.

Enjoy let us know how it shoots. I would have kept the stock way it was.

Would like to know how it shoots also. Good idea waiting for that shooter kit. Is that PPU ammo hotter than the Federal or Remington loaded 8MM does anyone know? Thanks for sharing.

Shot well no issues. Put about 30 round down range.

The PPu seems to kick fairly well, so not sure how it compares to other manufactures. It’s all I had on hand.

Grouping at 70 M or so iron sights. No support other then my elbows. So fairly accurate still.




Yeah I know about the stock, to me I see no historical value in storage dirty and grim from it sitting in someone’s closet for decades.

I do t plan on selling this anytime soon. So I’m not very caught up on “collector value”. As I could care less it’s a nice conversation piece that is hanging in my home office and will so for as long as I’m alive.

Commercial PPU has always worked well for me in my K98s + K43 AC45. Never have had any issues with the ammo.

Not many at all. I have a few listed, but it’s like maybe 3 or 4 sets.

That looks great, I tried mineral spirits on mine which looked about the same dark wood as what you started with but it didn't come out that nice The stuff I used is odorless which is all I could find so maybe its not as potent?
