Help! I don't think this is all matching :(

Hello,

I won this at a online auction today. All seemed fairly well until I looked at it closer and saw the lug in the center of the stock is Mauser WaA 655? Is this correct for a 1940 243?? Again this was a online auction so I can't see it in person. It was listed all numbers matching? Thoughts?

Thanks all

Got a 243 1940 myself. Bringback from my dad. Checked mine. Stamped 26. All matcher. What did yours cost if I may ask?

I was able to get some detailed pics of missing particulars of this rifle . Here are those pics . Its a Luftampt Rifle .
I was interested in the rifle but when I asked a well know member his opinion he told me he thought the rifle possibly had been ReBlued and not a Period Reblue , IHO . Best Regards

Hmmm Interesting.... What makes you think it's reblued?

The appearance of the blue itself. It is a luftamt (Luft. depot build), but it looks reblued to me as well. I'm not just saying that because I don't know what 99% finish original K98ks look like.

No possiblity it could of been done at the rebuild Depot?

I do, and you're right. This one is too glossy. It's been buffed.

Gotcha makes sense. Oh well I'm happy with it ! The wood is nice!

I agree that in these photos it looks refinished, too much polish on the metal for what normally passes as depot reblue. Wait till you get it in hand though, I see some wear here and there and some other stuff that may make it better in hand - the 243 1940 receivers are notoriously high polish, lets see your photos of the barrel out of the wood and make a final determination.

Agreed. The thing that gets me is why would someone reblue or polish the gun and not sand the stock and or sportarize it??

Will do! Will keep everyone updated when I get it. Thanks all
