S/42 1937 First Variation P08

This another recent pick up. This is a pretty neat one for a few reasons. First variation guns run through the early 't' block of 1937 and was pretty much complete by 3100 t. This one is 2332 t, so just before the transition. Guys who study 1937 dated lugers have more or less broken the first variation guns into two substantiations those with the frame ear reinforcement (humped frame) and those without. This is a second sub-variation with the humped frame, only 3200 were produced with strawed parts and a humped frame. You also see some change in the blue finish as the transition is approached occasionally you see guns with a mix of rust blue and salt blued parts, this is a good example of that. This variant almost has a Krieghoff style look to it as far as the finish goes. If you look at the stock lug of this gun you can see a pretty nasty gash with some green fouling in the cuts. This one was probably hit by a piece of shrapnel or a ricochet.
