Picked this up for a little bit of nothing off a couple pictures, didn’t know much of anything about it, of course it turned out to be a matched action

No they left that alone. Not really excited or interested in restoring a Bsw though. Check it out, the FP detent is Simson

Why Bubba! Why does it always seem he gets the rare ones.

I mean seriously when these guys went into stores back then they couldn't get the ones that seemed to be the most common. No we had to pull the cool one off the rack with the pretty stock and the neat symbol on the receiver.

Barrel looks to be replaced. So would be a hard restoration. I guess someone could make a pseudo-sniper clone out of it. Shame. Some guys would probably love to have those parts though.

John.

I bet the barrel is original, still has the detent hole for the rear sight screw, they just turned it down I’m thinking. But I agree, I don’t see it being too worth it. The plus side is, it’s glass bed and the trigger is worked to 3lb, I’m going to the range tomorrow! haha

Parts value is still pretty high, quality BSW parts go for a premium. Though I would keep it as is for a work rifle, or hunter if that is your thing (like the 98a, a chopped up 98k is a pretty light and handy rifle in the field). Damn shame though...

If you do take it down, get the BC, BSW is distinctive, - and it would be helpful to see such an early BC, most recorded are after this rifle.

A real shame for sure, I took it down yesterday but the barrel is turned down enough that all remnants of the code are gone unfortunately. Here’s all that’s below the wood line.

Thanks for trying, - I would still consider it a real find, its early enough (earlier are harder) and it hasn't been refinished (ruined), so if a choice was to be had between an rc or this sporter, I wouldn't need time decide. These make damn handy rifles for field use. I use a 98a for such work, chasing off predators, but this BSW/37 would be all the more better! Probably a little heavier though... which matters walking up and down sandy washes.

Confirm the bolt acceptance if you can, I assume e/4 throughout, e/4 x2 under bolt handle? Same style eagles or different?

Paul, yeah they’re the same style, here’s a picture too. It certainly is a nice handling rifle, could stand a little taken off that comb though and a little trimming here and there. I’ve got a very svelte large ring built in Zella Mehlis that barely breaks 6 pounds, makes this one look like a porker!

Thanks for the extra pictures! Little things like this come in handy when enough are collected.

My hands won't allow it or I'd break down my 9 bSw's for the BC's and other info. Clay needs to come back to the northeast and help me.

Thanks for the thought, but not necessary at all, BSW was a full maker at this time frame and very little changes year to year, block to block, mostly FP and RR changes, and they are mild changes to each variation. The only real mysteries are the 1936's and the B-C codes that seemingly have no obvious solution.

Fascinating company, personalities and rifles but the rifles are not too complicated... BSW/Gustloff Weimar was the complicated firm!
