Bsw 1938 k98

This is a factory code BSW 1938. It is in excellent condition. The reciever, barrel band and nose cap have matching serical numbers. There is also no import mark! Please provide me with any information you know about this rifle and what you think it is worth. Thank you!

Additional photos+question

Here are some additional photos. As you can see on the bottom of the reciever, there is a 6 point star marking. I was curious what this denotes?

Pretty interesting rifle. Spent some time in post war germany, and in iraq. Not sure in which order. That rifle has alot of history to it. Id put the value at about the same as a russian capture k98k.

EDIT: also I doubt any numbers on that rifle actually match. If numbers do match it was stamped post wwII.

John.

bSw is a tough code to find in any year. This one as said has seen post war use in two different places at least and numbers are all over the board. Barrel has been replaced. Front band, stock and trigger guard are totally incorrect for any year bSw (1937-1939). Should be solid black walnut with a flat butt plate. The star marking is an "in house" marking for bSw receivers when they went through the process of being made. Value could be from $400-750.. best guess.

More info about BSW 1938

Bought the rifle from Fed Ord on 12-28-89.

Was interested in acquiring old Military guns of different calibers to target shoot.

Had no knowledge about "collecting", matching numbers, etc.

My recollection is that after buying the rifle, I shot a few rounds, cleaned the rifle , and it has been in the safe for the past thirty years.

Found out the recoil of the 8mm was too heavy for me.

Apparently, when Fed Ord assembled the rifle from various parts, they forgot to mark the barrel. Believe the few rounds I shot are the only rounds fired since the Fed Ord re-work.

To my eye, the barrel appears excellent and should be accurate.

Thank you for your help.
