HZa stamped Model 1938 Moschettos aren't terribly difficult to locate with some effort and patience, but depot stamped examples of pre-1938 Carcanos seem to be a significantly bigger challenge. While this was produced as late as 1936, it's still a Model 1891, and as such has the older adjustable rear sight and the first pattern bayonet attachment. There were three methods used in all, beginning with this type (switch), followed by the swivel latch and finally the push button design seen on Model 1938 examples. Some were 'upgraded' to the Model 1938 pattern but some obviously retained their original characteristics. The receiver and stock numbers match, and there are no import markings. It was inspected at Ingolstadt 3, which processed the majority of reported depot stamped Carcanos.
All of the period photos I've seen of German troops or VS personnel using Carcano Cavalry carbines have shown Model 1938's, so I'm assuming that pre-Model 1938 examples were issued/used in fewer numbers. In a possibly similar vein, the period photos of Italian troops using these prior to the September 1943 armistice with the Allies appear to be or are specified as being from further out in the Italian area of operations, like the Aegean or smaller outposts in the Dodecanese and Cyclades. There's no way to know for sure, but it's possible this one came from somewhere further out from the main area of active operations before being captured or confiscated by German troops.
