Finnish Edge Weapons are a big part of my collection and a few months back I managed to pick up 2 very rare ones to complete what for me is the Trilogy of Finnish Edge Weapons. I had the Hackman M/42 for a few years and to it I added a Fiskars M/42 and Coppel Made M/19 Long Puukkopistin all with correct Scabbard and Frog.
The M/42 was an experimental bayonet made from cutdown M/28-30 Bayonets with smooth scabbards and even some M/28 Bayonets with fluted scabbards. Only 150 total were made in 1942. 100 of which were made from Hackman M/28-30 and the other 50 from Fiskars M/28-30 and Hackman M/28 (it is believed 45 and 5). This was carried out by the Finnish Civil Guard. Blades were shortened from 300mm to 120mm and sharpened to an edge similar to the M/39 Bayonet or Puukko. The scabbards were also shortened and rewelded with more of an angled tip to accommodate the new blade. The reason for this was because of all the manufacturing issues and delays with the M/39 Bayonet. Ultimately though the M/42 was never adopted.
Next on my want list is a Hackman M/42 made from a Hackman M/28 with correct shortened fluted scabbard and a M/27 Civil Guard Puuko, both even rarer than these three.
Fiskars M/28-30 and Hackman M/28 or the before pics
M/19 Puukkopistin Short (commonly called M/22) made by Both German Manufacturers and Finnish
Logos on Blades: Pictured from Top Left to Right Carl Eickhorn, E & F Hörster, Alex Coppel, Hackman, M. Kotshack, Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie (WKC) Smooth, WKC, Coppel, and Hackman Smooth. The smooth wood grips painted black were for lower ranks. Not pictured is Fiskars since it has eluded me.
M/19 short, M/19 short in scabbard with frog, and M/19 Long without scabbard (my first M/19 long).
Hackman M/42, Coppel M/19 Long, and Fiskars M/42 Complete
AV3, Sk.Y, and Date Marked Green Leather Frogs
M/42 Hackman with Cutdown Smooth and Fluted Scabbards from Per Holmback
M/28 Cutdown bayonet similar to a M/42 made from M/28 from Niko Nirvi (believe to be field made and not part of official program)
M/27 Civil Guard Puuko from Pekka Tuominen
